Hee Haw was born in mid-2001 after changing their name from CLONe (Haw! for one show) and stripping back from a 4 piece to a raw and ragged 3-piece in the process. The newly refined Hee Haw took out 2nd place in the 2001 Wollongong University Band Comp. This success lead to supports with Zoobombs (Japan), Sixfthick and Fez Perez to name a few. Hee Haw’s sound takes in the melodramatic darkness of Bauhaus, the sex-groove bottom end and punk ferocity of The Birthday Party as well as the play on silence and ambience that was Joy Division and make it their own. Hee Haw have managed to come up with a sound that not only encapsulates the 80’s Gothic sound, but takes on a modern and experimental edge in the process that is familiar yet uniquely Hee Haw. Hee Haw signed up with High Beam Music towards the end of 2001 and entered the studio to record their debut e.p. How To Pay Your Debts When Your a Genius. Hee Haw have fast gained a reputation for unique and mesmerising live shows veering from eerie and hypnotic moodiness and transforming into white noise violence in an unpredictable and dynamic manner.
